Famous people Who died 2016 – TV actors
- Nyembezi Kunene
Kunene was a director and actor. He died in June, at the age of 74, from problems related to diabetes.
- Greg Melvill-Smith
A well-known 7de Laan actor, Melvill-Smith died in June from cancer. Diagnosed with the disease in September 2015 he battled the illness for several months before dying.
- Segale Mogotsi
Mogotsi was a radio veteran who died in hospital in November after complaining of extreme pain.
Famous people Who died 2016 – Music icons
- Mandoza
Mandoza’s death in September had thousands of fans mourning. He died from cancer. Shortly before his death, Mendoza made one last public appearance when he performed at the Thank You SABC Music Concert.
- Sfiso Ncwane
Ncwane was an icon gospel singer. He died in December of kidney failure after being admitted to a hospital in Johannesburg.
Ncwane was scheduled to appear in a concert but apparently became ill only hours before dying. The show had to be cancelled.
- Koyo Bala
Bala was a veteran musician who died in May after a long battle with cancer.
- Refiloe Motha
Motha became famous when she competed in the popular Coca-Cola Popstars TV music competition. She died in October.
- DJDuke Soul
Soul died in April. His poor health began after collapsing at O.R. Tambo Airport.
- Lahlumlenze
Lahlumlenze was a veteran maskandi artist. Born Sipho Nxumalo, he became popularly known as Lahlumlenze, and died after collapsing at his home in Vosloorus.
Famous people Who died 2016 – Sports personalities
- Gugu Zulu
Zulu died in a tragic accident in July while climbing with his wife. The rally driver, who was 38-years-old, was trying to raise money to aid 350 000 poor girls. Zulu was taking part in a Trek4Mandela expedition.
