Nehawu – Affordable Comprehensive Funeral Benefits

Nehawu knows that when one is young and healthy, you won’t think of planning for the future. And for many, planning for one’s funeral is an unwelcome obligation toward that inevitable event – death.

However, the plans you make will determine the outcome of events when you or a family member passes away. Nehawu also knows that.

The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) has a Funeral Benefit scheme; a burial plan which provides its members with affordable, comprehensive burial benefits for the principal member and extended family members. They also offer other benefits such as the repatriation of dead bodies back home.

A Funeral Plan for One is a Funeral Plan for All

NehawuNehawu trade union offers burial plans designed for all members of the union, but they also offer other added benefits such as the repatriation of mortal remains as well as 24/7 access to counselling and antiretroviral therapy.

Nehawu offers its members the Plus Plan, the Max Plan and the Super Max Plan. With Nehawu, any immediate family member who wants to join a scheme can’t be older than 65 years of age.

The policyholder and his spouse need to be below the age of 65 to be eligible for cover. Children up to the age of 21 can be in the policy and up to the age of 25 if the child is still a student. When submitting claims to Nehawu, you submit a claim form along with the relevant supporting documents within six months of the person’s death.

These documents are:

  • a signed claim form
  • police report in the event of unnatural death
  • certified copy of claimants ID document
  • a certified copy of deceased ID document
  • certified copy if the deceased’s death certificate
  • a copy of BI 1663 form
  • proof of banking details
  • recent salary slips
  • an affidavit by the claimant confirming relationship dependency of the deceased.
