AVBOB Helpline for Getting a Funeral Plan
Here are the reasons why you should use the AVBOB helpline.When taking out a funeral plan, the small print and jargon can be quite daunting, especially if you’re not familiar with insurance terms and “insurance speak”. Most of us would rather do countless other things rather than read about, or even think about, death and funeral plans; but, unfortunately, death is a reality we all have to face. The best way to deal with it is to be as informed as possible.
When taking out a funeral plan, the small print and jargon can be quite daunting, especially if you’re not familiar with insurance terms and “insurance speak”. Most of us would rather do countless other things rather than read about, or even think about, death and funeral plans; but, unfortunately, death
is a reality we all have to face. The best way to deal with it is to be as informed as possible.
AVBOB’s help line is there to do just that – provide information. Here are some of the most common questions that arise:
AVBOB Helpline – What’s taking so long?
AVBOB isoverseen by the Financial Services Board (FSB) of South Africa, and is also a licenced Financial Services Provider (FSP). This means that AVBOB has to comply with a lengthy list of regulations in order to combat insurance fraud and the like and have, therefore, emoloyed an external company to help called, CENSEO. This company helps to verify claims to avoid fraudulent claims, and the whole process takes some time.
AVBOB Helpline – How will I know what’s going on?
Once you have submitted your claim, you’ll receive a text message confirming receipt of your claim. You will then receive another text to say your claim is being assessed by CENSEO. At this point in the process, if you receive “private number” calls, it’s important that you answer as CENSEO will contact you to go over your claim information. Working together with the consultant from CENSEO will speed up the claims process.
Will AVBOB inform the funeral parlour whether my claim is successful?
As soon as CENSEO clears your claim, AVBOB will process it and let you know.
When I took the policy out, AVBOB said the cover would be paid out within 48 hours.
That promise still applies; as long as all the required documents have been handed in and verified, the claim will be paid out within the stated time. Clients need to be aware that AVBOB’s terms and conditions do state that claims need to be validated prior to being paid out. AVBOB is also able to take care of the funeral arrangements for its clients, if necessary, which speeds up the entire process.
How long could it take?
It can take as much as 21 days to process. AVBOB does its utmost best to ensure the process goes as quickly as possible; however, it is impossible to give an exact time frame.
Why does AVBOB validate claims?
Companies in South Africa are unfortunately experiencing an increase in insurance fraud, with many cases related to ID fraud. AVBOB must protect its clients and itself from fraud and, as a result, they must validate claims. They randomly select validated claims and sometimes take up to 21 days to finalise; though, usually, they resolve claims within three days.
What documents do you need to process a claim?
- A death certificate;
- A copy of pages 1, 2, and 3 of the BI1663 form;
- A policy document;
- A medical certificate;
- A claimant’s declaration (you can get this at an AVBOB agency); and
- An SAPS declaration (if death was due to unnatural causes).
